Nanostructured heterogeneous photocatalyst materials for green synthesis of valuable chemicals

The photocatalytic process employing nanostructured semiconductor materials has attracted great attention in energy production, CO2 reduction, and water/air purification for decades. Recently, applying heterogeneous photocatalyst the synthesis of valuable chemicals is gradually emerging considered as a promising conversion cheap resources (i.e., biomass derivatives, polyols, aromatic hydrocarbons). Compared with traditional thermal catalytic approaches, provides mild reaction condition flexible platform (photocatalyst) that allows precise tweaking intermediates pathways, thus resulting fine control selective specialized are challenging catalysis. In this review, we summarize recent achievements various industrial important via photo-oxidative photo-reductive processes. oxidation alcohols aromatics, epoxidation alkenes, hydrogenation gaseous molecules hydrocarbons, coupling reactions by means photocatalysts including metal oxides, supported plasmonic nanostructures, conjugated organic polymers, anchored homogeneous catalysts, dye-sensitized heterostructures discussed from material perspective. addition, fundamental understandings mechanisms rational design enhancing efficiency, selectivity, stability detail.
